Dan Wenger

Musicamente, Music Teacher

Dan Wenger was born in Upper Manhattan and raised by two very musical parents. He began studying piano and trombone in his early youth through private lessons. He then attended LaGuardia High School for Performing and Visual Arts. At LaGuardia, he played in pop, jazz, orchestral and symphonic band settings. At this time, Dan developed a strong love for jazz music and other improvisational genres.

Dan received his B.A. in music with a minor in Environmental Studies from Ithaca College.  During his time at IC, he performed and toured with a variety of bands, refined his understanding of music history, theory, performance and education, and volunteered as a visiting musician at a local assisted living home. The latter experience led him to discover the field of music therapy.

Dan is completing the second year of his masters degree at the prestigious music therapy program of SUNY New Paltz. He recently completed his music therapy training with students diagnosed with Autism at the Rebecca School in New York City. He works part-time supporting individuals with disabilities at assisted living residences. Dan has taught private music lessons to youth, spoken at elementary schools to encourage musical participation, and transcribed & arranged the songs for a music therapy songbook awaiting publication.
